It is important that you constantly and consistently apply the small pieces of homework from your sessions into your everyday conversations. This will help you reflect on what’s working, what’s not working, and help you to realise new things you weren’t aware of before!
It is possible, however, iIt takes a lot of work to really tune into all the nuances of perfecting an accent. The first question I’d have for you is: ‘What is your goal and why?’ Clarity is certainly more achievable and important than perfecting an accent, as it will contribute greatly to your speaking confidence and help you to align to your own personality and identity in the way you speak and naturally come across.
Depending on the ethos of how you are being trained and who you are being trained by, this is certainly possible. At SLVC, we place your personal identity and authenticity at the centre of everything, so that you are able to align the technical knowledge and practice with who you are to feel completely comfortable in the sound you are learning to shift into. We teach through an intercultural lens and we often also work on international accents with our clients as well, since they speak to many diverse, global audiences.
